Angel Jackets Tan Cafe Racer Jacket Review

You all know how much I wear a leather jacket, so I am excited to review the classic Amy Women’s Tan Cafe Racer brown leather jacket from Angel Jackets. Scroll down to read the full, honest review, highlighting the jacket’s fit, style, affordability and more.

Angel Jackets sources raw materials like lambskin hides as a primary source for their jackets. The company has been in business for 11 years creating and crafting leather jackets that are affordable for most. I wish there was a little more transparency into the company.

Angel Jackets claims to create a eco-friendly and sustainable product. Though the product is produced overseas, Angel Jackets sources their leather from local farmers and providers, ultimately supporting the surrounding communities. Also, the company does not use any polluting materials such as plastic, wood, or other hazardous chemicals that create industrial waste and pollute the environment. Read more here.

Ultimately, Angel Jackets wants its customers to know that they are doing as much as they can as a company to give their customers the highest quality product at the fairest market price.

I was gifted the Amy Women’s Tan Cafe Racer in XS. In these images, I am 37 weeks (9 months) pregnant, but still am roughly the same size up top. The jacket is made of 100% genuine leather and is fairly soft. It fits slim in the shoulder and snug in the torso. I can tell that if I could zip up the jacket it would be a nice, slender, fit through the body.

The length of the coat is perfect. It hits my hips perfectly. This makes it easy to pair back to any top. Both a crop top as well as a longer length tunic style would look flattering with the jacket.

As far as the overall fit, I don’t feel like it is super flattering on me in the chest. This could be because of my gigantic belly, or it could be from the stitching detail in the front making it feel larger or bulkier.

I am 5’4” and was sent an XS. The XS is a perfect size. I would not want any more or less material to work with.

The brand offers sizing from XS to XXXL. This is pretty generous, but I do think they have some room for improvement in the smaller sizes.

As I mentioned above, I received my normal size (XS) and it fits slightly large. The sleeve length is fine (hitting just under my wrists), but the jacket itself is loose through the torso and sleeve. I do need to wear it completely unbuttoned because of my growing belly.

Generally, I am 5’4”, 120 lbs and wear a 32C, however, I am currently 37-weeks pregnant while writing this review (March 2024) so my frame has changed slightly. This review is now based on a 5’4” 141 lb frame with a 32D bust.

I used the sizing chart on Angel Jackets website to establish which size I should order. I cross referenced my measurements with those on the chart (see below).

I’m a simple girl. I like simple silhouettes. This jacket is a lovely silhouette with clean lines and a simple lapel.

I was sent the Cafe Racer Leather Jacket in Tan.

What I love:

  • I love the simplicity in the details. There is one single zipper that tracks from the top to the base of the jacket.

  • The seams in the back give it a fitted and flattering silhouette.

  • The jacket’s styling is relatively simple when it comes to the lapel, the body of the jacket and the stitching detail.

  • Because there isn’t too much detail aside from the single zipper and stitching, I think this jacket is very versatile and wearable.

  • There is an interior pocket large enough for [most\ phones, keys, chapstick, etc. This is a fun working detail.

Things I’d change:

  • The leather is soft but stiff. After wearing it for a while I thought it may loosen a little and become slightly more ‘worn in” but it did not. This is something I would expect the leather to do after a few wears, but maybe this jacket takes several wears before really loosening around the body.

  • The leather was noisy. Because the leather was slightly stiffer than what I am used to I noticed it was slightly noisy to wear. The leather sounded like it was fighting against itself to move in certain ways. I am fairly sensitive to sound in clothing, so this was slightly annoying.

  • Though the interior ‘catch all’ pocket is a nice touch, it felt a little slapped in. What I mean by this is it didn’t feel tactfully built into the jacket, moreover just stitched in for an added quick detail in hopes customers enjoyed it.

  • The zipper looks and feels cost-effective. The base of the zipper is already tarnishing and I’ve only owned this piece slightly over a month.

For real leather, the price of this jacket is currently promoted [with discounts] as $169. I think this is pretty fair, maybe slightly high, considering the quality of material, but I know that you can find faux leather coats at this price, so I do think $169 is fair. I could see this jacket merchandised in a large department store featured with alternate leather jacket styles ranging in the $200-$450 price point with this jacket being the lowest cost of them all.

As for value for wear, I do not feel like this jacket will stand the test of time. Considering the zipper is already tarnishing and the leather feels slightly stiffer than normal to wear, I feel like this jacket will make it 2-3 years and then need to be retired. For $160 this is probably what you would expect when purchasing leather in this price bubble.

I would rate the jacket from Angel Jackets a 3.5/5.

The leather is soft, but stiff, and for the price point, I find this pretty reasonable. For under $200 (with promo price), the quality of leather is recommendable.

In terms of fit, I feel like the jacket fits as expected. It’s not a fit that will turn heads, but for the price point it fits well enough that it would be a good throw on if you wanted something other than black that wouldn’t break the bank.

I love the simplicity of the jacket. I think its simplicity makes it wearable with almost any outfit. There is no hardware which makes it sleek and demure.

In comparison to other jackets that I have owned, I think its price point is very reasonable for real leather. I would say for the quality it is quite competitive in todays market.

Overall, if a client needed something inexpensive to fill a void, I would feel confident recommending this jacket but reminding them that at $160 it may not last as long as they would expect it to. It would, however, be an easy jacket to style with most items in their wardrobe and will not break the bank.
