Gucci Double G (Marmont) thong sandal Review | Price, Fit, Styling and More!

The name of this sandal sounds like a top 40 rap song. Gucci, Double G…

That’s my sad attempt to sound like I know a thing or two about pop-culture. The truth is, I DON’T.

Well, quite literally, the Gucci Double G Thong Sandal is the sandal I wear the most. I had the hardest time pulling the trigger because honestly, what could be so great about a sandal? But, I quickly realized that something so simple could become a solid staple in my everyday (summer) wardrobe, and let’s face it, Arizona is summer almost all year!

Most of my other reviews are quite in-depth, but I’ll just cut to the chase right now. I love this sandal, and will buy it in white as soon as I retire another sandal in my closet. It is 100% worth the money.

In this post I will review the Gucci Double G Sandal’s fit, styling, price and comfort, so you have a better idea of what color and size you should purchase.

The fact that Gucci still uses exotic animal skins and hair sends the brand lower on the scale of sustainability, giving it a 3/5 rating.

The brand is owned by Kering, a French luxury group out of Paris, France. Kering has multiple strategies in place to improve overall sustainability, but these courses of action take time.

Gucci does have some wins. It’s environment rating is 'good', and the brand uses some eco-friendly materials including recycled materials in its products. The brand has set a science-based target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated from its own operations and supply chain and it is on track to meet its target (based on the Good On You rating).

Gucci’s labor rating has received a 3/5. Some of its supply chain is certified by Social Accountability International - SA8000 including all of the final stage of production. It received a score of 41-50% in the Fashion Transparency Index. Gucci has implemented practices to encourage diversity and inclusion in its direct operations but not its supply chain, but there is no evidence that the brand ensures payment of a living wage in most of its supply chain. It discloses policies to protect suppliers and workers in its supply chain from the impacts of COVID-19.

Finally, Gucci’s animal rating is a 2/5. It has a formal animal welfare policy aligned with Five Domains. It uses leather, exotic animal hair and exotic animal skin. Gucci states that it sources wool from non-mulesed sheep and uses down certified by the Responsible Down Standard. It does not use fur, angora or exotic animal skin. It traces most animal products to the first stage of production (Good On You).

Sustainability: 3/5

I love the way these shoes fit. The top strap is loose enough to allow your foot to move comfortably within the shoe, but snug enough so you don’t move in and out of the shoe. If you are more narrow you could try sizing down 1/2 size for a snugger fit. I own a 37.5 which is my. normal shoe size. I have ample space from my heel to the end of the shoe so if needed I could have sized down for a tighter fit.

I have never felt like the piece of leather between my toes is rubbing. To those who are sensitive to thong sandals, you may want to try them in the house first before you wear them outside. What works for me may not necessarily work for everyone, but I have never felt discomfort or rubbing between my toes. Another place some may feel rubbing is on the outer edges of your foot where the thick band connects to the shoe. I have not had this problem, but I know that some may be sensitive to this as well.

Purchasing from a store like Nordstrom may help you feel better about your purchase because they do not have a time restriction on returns. Designer shoes cannot show wear in order to make a return at Nordstrom, but you can keep them for longer than the normal 30, 45 or 90 day return policy other stores have in place.

FIT: 5/5

(Shown above) I can wear these sandals with anything. I love the shoe because I never feel like the black sandal takes away from an outfit. I love its minimal silhouette and chic between-the-toe style.

Generally I talk about the products physical style, but these I think speak for themselves. The minimal silhouette truly can be paired with any outfit. See 8 examples below.

The Gucci Double G sandal runs $595. This is pretty consistent pricing for the market in regards to a leather designer sandal.

You can get a non-leather or rubber sandal like Versace Medusa Flip Flop, Valentino V Logo sandal, or the Valentino Rockstud Jelly Flip Flop for $450 and under. Otherwise, the Gucci Double G sandal is at the low end price-wise for a designer leather sandal.

$595 for a sandal is high, don’t get me wrong, but in terms of consistency within the market, the price for the sandal is reasonable.

Quality is incredible. The sole is lined with rubber which inherently will aid in the lifespan of the shoe. The leather strap is firmly sewn into the leather base. It feels solid. The gold GG emblem is secure on the leather strap and I don’t for-see it detaching throughout the life of the shoe.

I have owned my Double G Thong sandal for 2 years and the only visible wear is on the sole. As I mentioned before, there is rubber on the bottom of the shoe so if I were to clean them up, they may actually look like new.

4.5/5

Maybe I’m biased. I love this sandal so much. It fits perfectly with [almost] every outfit, it’s comfortable, made well and simple yet stylish. Anyone at any age can wear this sandal and look put together.
